Tea for Two ~ God and You

Bottoms Up June 6, 2014

Have you ever coaxed a sweaty, over-heated toddler from their play for a drink of water? One of three results usually occur:

A. They completely ignore you, silently declaring that what they are doing is more important.

B. Begrudgingly they take a swig, making it clear that it is only because they are forced.

C. They grab the cup with both hands, gulp noisily much of the water, and look at you breathlessly for admiration for obedience.

Obviously, you didn’t offer a drink for your own benefit…apart from your concern for their well-being. It was for their own good. Without water they can not function properly, will get sick, and eventually die. Your providing vital life-sustaining is an act of self-less love.

It is healthy growth where a child realizes that water is important, good for them, and a necessary part of life. Hopefully they will learn to quench their own thirst with H2O without someone waving a sippy cup and begging them to partake.

Consequently, we don’t do God any favors by connecting with him. It is a privilege. A vital, life-giving privilege. Enjoy it. Appreciate it.

Jesus Loves The Little Children February 27, 2014

Jesus Loves The Little Children

What is it about kids and their simple faith? I am overwhelmed with a huge sense of responsibility as I teach these precious little ones about Jesus. They hang onto every word I say, and accept each new thought happily and completely.

Last week, I had 52 in my neighborhood Bible club. The most rewarding part of the day, however, was my translator. Wilguemps.

Church (8)

This genuine young man grew-up in our school and is now being used to reach kids just like himself.

???????????????????????????????

His younger brother listened to us intently as we talked of miracles and faith. He beamed with pride at his older brother, and I have great hope that he will follow in his steps.

Thank you, God, for loving the little children!

God’s Pleasure May 13, 2013

While reading this morning in Psalms, it hit me that we can literally bring real pleasure to the Holy God of the Universe.  After checking what the Scripture had to say about it,  this is what I discovered.

The Hiddenness of God February 16, 2013

Addiction

We are all addicted to something…something that makes us feel better to some extent.  We use what works, and it works because it triggers chemicals in your brain to be released upon usage.  All addictions (shopping, gambling, religion, drinking, drugs, music, chocolate, gardening, exercise, learning, climbing, surfing, scrap-booking…) create receptors that demand to be satiated at increasing frequencies.

When Paul told the Ephesians to be filled with the Holy Spirit instead of booze, he was spot on.  In satisfying a fleshly appetite, it only serves to create a larger one.  Paul knew this.  He wasn’t always Paul the Apostle of Jesus Christ.   He was Saul.  Saul who had tried to fill the void in his life by doing everything imaginable, including murdering followers of Christ.  He was desperate to do it his way and ignore the Spirit of God.

While Indulging in activities that please our five senses, we dull our spirit to that which is real…the only thing that truly matters.  The Enemy tricks us into thinking that next big hit will make us really happy and that it will last.  We believe him, and time and again we find ourselves empty, hurt, and alone – even when surrounded by everything we thought we wanted.

So what do we do?  What did the Samaritan woman at the well do?  She tried sex.  Lots of it.  She was miserable.  Until she met HIM.  The One who could give her real satisfaction…water that would quench her internal thirst for love and peace.  Everlasting fulfillment.

The beauty of being filled with the Spirit is that it is the ONLY substance in the universe that really brings satisfaction – that sense that everything is going to be OK.  The Holy Spirit breathes life into you that you had forgotten or didn’t even know was possible.  He fills you with power, love, wisdom, gifts, and overflowing joy.

So…take it from a girl who has tried it all and found Jesus Christ to be the ONLY answer to life, and invite the Holy Spirit of God to come into your world.  I promise you that you will find in Christ everything for which you have been searching.
